The University of Sydney
Case Study – The University of Sydney
The University of Sydney, founded in 1850, is Australia's first university, and has an international reputation for outstanding teaching, as a centre of research and excellence and as an active and engaging community leader.
The annual University of Sydney Calendar is the University of Sydney's central source of official information.
The Calendar provides general and historical information about the University of Sydney, the statutes and regulations under which it operates and the Senate resolutions relating to constitutions of and courses in each faculty.
The statutes and regulations, as well as some Senate resolutions, also appear in policy online.
Along with the University of Sydney Handbooks, the Calendar forms the official legal source of information relating to study at the University of Sydney.
In a first for any Australian university The University of Sydney has published its Calendar Archive on its web site.
ADEC Preview partnered with the University of Sydney Calendar Archive to provide a centralised, online repository of all University of Sydney Calendars, which date from 1852.
ADEC Preview scanned the Calendar Archives using OCR (optical character recognition) into multi-page, indexed and searchable PDF/A1b version files and Microsoft Word files that could be published on the Calendar Archive web site.
This online Calendar Archive provides access to the Calendars in both PDF and Microsoft Word formats either as a single page or an entire book. It enables users to search through the Calendars for a given keyword or browse all years of the Calendar, and provides historians and academics with the opportunity to undertake specialist research projects.
